Staff from AFG’s head office in Perth teamed up in late September to plant thousands of native plants at a local park, just north of the Perth CBD in Mt Hawthorn.
Some 40 staff put on their gardening gloves on Friday afternoon (September 30), collectively spending 120 hours planting almost 40 species of native shrubs and trees, at the Edinboro Street Reserve in the suburb of Mt Hawthorn.
About 2000 native tubestock, which attract and provide food for Black Cockatoos, four large Corymbia calophyla ‘Rosea’ trees and one Eucalyptus caesia were planted on the day.
The plantings were part of an eco-zoning project by the City of Vincent, as part of its Greening Plan.
Getting our staff involved in tree planting is not just a great chance for staff to get together outside the office, but also has a positive impact on the environment and supports biodiversity.

The project involves extending existing garden beds around the perimeter of the reserve and replacing unhealthy exotic tree species with native trees that have a positive ecological impact.
AFG plans to make its staff tree planting volunteer program an annual event.
AFG head of communications Alison Clarke said members of the newly formed AFG Green Team are working together to help the company put the environment at the front and centre of everything we do.
“We have a number of initiatives underway as AFG looks to a greener future,” she said.
